The Hero of the Soviet Union was born on the 9th of November in 1916 in Vladimir region in the village Lyakhi. Nikolay was born in the poor peasant’s family. When he was a pupil of the 5th form he moved to his father in the countryside Shimorskoe, Vyksa district. His childhood wasn’t easy and happy. Nikolay finished only seven forms and began to work at the plant. Nikolay’s family had a very hard financial position. Nevertheless he wanted to study and get a good education. In 1938 Nikolay graduated from the Ryazan flying club. Then he studied in the Summer school of pilots. In 1941 Nikolay Konyshev was mobilized in the Red Army. At the first time he served at the Kalinin front in the light bomber regiment. By April 1942 Nikolay Sergeevich had 14 battle flights and received the Order of the Red Star. In October 1942 he finished the training courses of fighter pilots. In the regiment Nikolay Sergeevich Konyshev fought at the Central, 1st Belarusian, 1st, 2nd and the 3rd Ukrainian fronts. Also Nikolay Sergeevich took part in the battle of Kursk, in the liberation of Belarus and Poland. During the war a major Nikolay Sergeevich Konyshev made 296 battle flights, conducted 53 air battles and shot down 18 enemy planes!!!
