There is an unforgettable chapter in the history of our country. On the twentysecond of June, 1941, Nasi Germany attacked our Motherland so the World
War the second began.
The Hitlerite invaders were sure that nothing could stand up against their
Army: more than five million officers and soldiers.
Facsists bombed our cities and towns, villages and farms, roads and bridges,
factories and plants. But millions our people raised to defend their country.
We shall overcome»
They had to fight from the White Sea in the north to the Black Sea in the
south. Our Army defended Moscow and Stalingrad, Kursk and Kharkov. And
who doesn’t know about Brest, the villadge of Krukovo.
We shall overcome, we shall overcome,
We shall covercome some day.
Oh, deep in my heart I do believe,
We shall overcome some day.
«The 22nd of June
It a wonderful summer night for the school- leavers in our country. Boys and girls
thought about future. They dreamt about happy life.
The war ruined their hopes and their dreams never came true.
Most of those young people were killed or died during the war.
«Our country is a land of beauty
Our country is a land of glee
Many are its rivers, forests, cities
Where a man is happy, proud and free.

THE SOVIET ARMY
(by M. Lebedinskaya-Modestova)
The Army of the USSR
Wears a red star.
The star means freedom to all the oppressed
I n the North and South, in the East and West.
The Soviet soldier bravely fights
For Socialism, freedom and workers rights.
Long live the Army that wears the star,
The vigilant eye of the USSR,
The working people’s protector and friend,
The Army that knows what it has to defend!

The cranes
Music by Yan Frenkel,
Lyrics by Rasul Gamzatov
It seems to me, at times now, that the soldiers
Who came not home again from blood-soaked plains,
Were once not lying “neath our soil, grown colder,
But were transformed, becoming white-winged cranes.
Until these times, from those dark days so distant,
They fly above, bestow on us their cries.
Is that not why, so often and so wistful,
We now fall silent, glancing at the skies?
Reach
They fly and fly, a tired wedge, through wide heaven,
They fly through mists as daylight leaves the lea.
In that formation there’s a space uneven.
It may be there a place is left for me.
When the world leaves you feeling blue
You can count on me, I will be there for you
When it seems all your hopes and dreams
Are a million miles away, I will reassure you
The day will come, and with white cranes a-flying.
I’ll also float through blue-grey twilight so.
From ‘neath the skies, like these wild birds a-crying
To all you, comrades, left on earth below.
We’ve got to all stick together
Good friends, there for each other
Never ever forget that
I’ve got you and you’ve got me, so
It seems to me, at times now, that the soldiers
Who came not home again from blood-soaked plains,
Were once not lying “neath our soil, grown colder,
But were transformed, becoming white-winged cranes.
Translated by Walter May
The Strangest Dream”
Last night I had the strangest dream,
I’d never dreamed before,
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war.
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
The room was full of men
And the paper they were signing said
They’d never fight again.
The Great Patriotic War ended in May,1945. That spring day of the 9th of
Maywent down as Victory Day. Our Victory was won at a high price. More
then 20 million people of our country died and were kelled during this war.
Chorus
Reach for the stars
Climb every mountain higher
Reach for the stars
Follow your heart’s desire
Reach for the stars
And when that rainbow’s shining over you
That’s when your dreams will all come true
There’s a place waiting just for you
It’s a special place where your dreams all come true
Fly away, swim the ocean blue
Drive that open road, leave the past behind you
Don’t stop, gotta keep moving
Your hopes have gotta keep building
Never ever forget that
I’ve got you and you’ve got me,so.
