These remarkable words about the war were said by the 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy. The War...How was it difficult to rescue our country? Were people afraid to give their lives for lives of their descendants? The list of such questions is endless. The war always shows the characters and tempers. Russian people are the bravest, the most courageous and the most selfless. People from different cities and towns protected our motherland in the Second World War. I am sure there were a lot of people from my native town Tambov. At 4 a.m. on 22nd of June in 1945 Germany started the war without its declaration. Tambov was in front-line. In the first days of war the battalion of 500 people was formed and they were sent to the Byelorussian front. The majority of these fighters were killed, but they stopped enemy troops in their sector of the front. Tambov' citizens built bomb-shelters. At night and the whole day they dug antitank ditches and trenches. Thousands of my townsmen behaved heroically in the war. More than 260 of them were awarded the title of the Hero of Soviet Union. P.T.Charitonov, who made the brute attack on the enemy's plane, became one of the first Heroes. I.T.Lyubuschkin and I.E.Barmin were the tank men who became Heroes in battle of Moscow. The pilots B.Alkidov, A.I.Balyasnikov, D.I.Barashev and others became famous in air battles. Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya had become the first woman who was awarded the title "the Hero of Soviet Union". She did not tell Germans anything about the plans of Soviet leadership and died in torture murder. There is a long list of Tambov's citizens who can be called "the unknown heroes" of the Second World War. People who had left in Tambov took care of injured, evacuated and orphans. Hospitals were located in schools, universities and sanatoriums. There were 47 of them in my town. As far as I know, there was a hospital in my school, Lyceum №6, which is located in Sovetskaya Street. After the war my townsmen helped to restore damaged cities and towns. Our region's center was awarded with an order of Labour Red Banner. The Second World War did not go through Tambov history without leaving any trace. There are a lot of places in my town which remind me about those terrible years. We have such monuments as "Timeless Flame", the monument of Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, the monument ""Tambov's Collective farmer Tank", the monument "Plane", "Sister" and others. The Second World War gives us a horrible experience which we will never forget. We will always remember our Heroes which gave us our lives, peaceful life and bright sky. In conclusion, I would like to write the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr., who lived from 1929 to 1968, about the war: "In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends..."
