There is a need to increase popular knowledge and understanding of the diversity of the languages of Europe, and the factors affecting their life and growth. There is a need to enhance linguistic tolerance within and between nations. Ведущий 3: There are about 225 indigenous languages in Europe. Most of European languages are of Indo-European origin. Ведущий 1: In December 2001 the Council of Europe proclaimed September 26 to be the European Day of Languages. Its aim is to encourage language learning across Europe.
