2. According this letter we can represent the paragraph plan or structure of any letter of application in the following way:

Put the following in the right order, then rewrite the letter in paragraphs adding a greeting and your name.
A –
I am a graduate of the Baron School of Tourism and my degree is in Hotel Management.
B –
I have enclosed my C.V. and would be glad to supply any further information required.

–
I believe that I have proper qualifications and experience for the position of Hotel Manager at your resort.
D
-
While at school I was the manager of the student

run restaurant. I assisted in the management of a twelve
-
member staff and kept records of the finances.

-
I am writing in response to your advertisement in Sunday’s edition of The Times.
I would like to apply for the position of Hotel Manager.
F –
I look forward to meeting you to discuss employment opportunities at The Sunshine Resort
.
G –
I have previous experience with Golden Sun Hotel as Assistant Manager. My responsibilities included supervising staff, responding to guest’s needs and keeping financial records.

Let’s check how you wrote the greeting and your name. It is a formal letter, that’s why we should use formal language. Here is some theory information about the language in a formal letter.
Formal letters are characterised
by:
Formal greetings and endings, e.g. Dear Mr. Brown… Yours sincerely (when you know the person’s name), Dear Sir/Madam… Yours faithfully ( when you don’t know the person’s name).
Formal vocabulary/ set phrases, e.g. I am writing to apply for the position of… .
Formal linkers/ phrases, e.g. For this reason, therefore, however.
The use of the passive, e.g. I can be contacted… .
The use of full forms , e.g. I have always been interested in… ( Not: I’ve always
… ).
Each paragraph develops one specific topic
Only facts, infrequent use of descriptive adjectives.
