This holiday is celebrated on the 14
th
of February. It isn’t a national holiday. It is necessary to go to work, banks and offices aren’t closed. It is a day of all lovers. It is a happy festival for young people. But it is celebrated among persons of all ages.

Valentine. What is it? *
It is a greeting card or a little present.The card must be colored and gay. It is possible to send flowers, cards and candies to those you love, but usually without giving the name of the sender. Valentine presents are packed in red heart

shaped boxes.

Hallowe’en is celebrated on the night of October 31. It is connected with ghosts and wiches.People believe that the spirits of the dead appear on that night. People have Hallowe’en parties and dress as witches and ghosts. They cut eyes and a mouth in pumpkins potatoes and other vegetables and put candles inside.

In old times children dressed in white sheets, knocked at doors and asked:

Trick or treat?
»
If people gave them something nice, they went away, if people didn’t, children played a «
trick
»
on them.

All English people celebrate Christmas on the 25
th
of December. It is the yearly celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life. Englishmen celebrate this holiday with the evergreen tree

Christmas tree. Children put a long sock which is called a Christmas stocking at the end of their beds and Santa Claus comes down the chimney to bring them presents. *

English people like this holiday very much and prepare for it beforehand. They buy presents for each other, send Christmas cards for their relatives and friends.

It is a day for fun. It is celebrated on the 1

of April. Everyone likes playing jokes on that day, but jokes are harmless and the victim of them is called an April fool. It is possible to play jokes on friends, parents, relatives and sometimes even on teaches if they have a sense of humour. *
This holiday first appeared in France and now it is very popular in many countries all over the world.
