characteristics of listening as a means of teaching representing the new language and speech material are stressed.

practical course are used. The article examines specific instances of training through video. They introduce peculiarities
of business English and etiquette to the students. The students become familiar with the habits of addressing different
people, greetings, invitations and many cultural related issues. The complex of exercises done before, during and after
listening is presented. The authors analyze the combination of video sequence and audio sequence and their sociocultural contents. The article makes a conclusion that video contributes to higher levels of learner motivation and
improves their communication skills, speaking and listening in particular.
Key words: business English, multimedia, authentic materials, listening, business ethics.
Currently, due to the development of international, economic, commercial relations and the
growing need for business communication, knowledge of business English for many experts of
international companies is a vital necessity. Business foreign language is now an integral part of the
course of learning a foreign language. As a result of the discipline "Business Foreign Language"
among other skills a student must have hearing and understand the main contents of simple
authentic political, journalistic (media) and pragmatic texts relating to various types of speech, and
to allocate them in a meaningful / information requested ; keep a record of the main ideas and facts
(from audiotexts); independently conduct business communication by phone and using other types
of voice; actively participate in business meetings, negotiations, interviews in English, using the
means of effective business communication; communicate with foreign partners in the process of
informal business communication; use English in business trips.
Business it implies a set of written and spoken language, and serves as a means of business
communication in a variety of speech situations. For teaching business communication is necessary
to use all kinds of language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. However, in our view,
audition training in the field of professional communication is one of the most difficult and
important aspects.
The development of auditory perception ability of foreign speech should be a priority when
learning a foreign language. Listening - the basis of listening comprehension, which gives you the
opportunity to master the sound side of the target language - the rhythm, stress, intonation and
assimilate grammatical and lexical phenomena studied language.
According to TA Sautovoy, listening is challenging intellectually receptive - mnemonic
activity. It is associated with the perception, understanding and active processing of the information
contained in the oral speech signal [4].
NL Fedotov believes that listening - a complicated psycholinguistic process of perception of
speech recognition and understanding, which is accompanied by the processing of the information
received, due to linguistic and practical experience of the recipient and provides a reflective
assessment of this information in inner speech. [5]. It follows that stimulates listening speech
activity of the trainees in communication situations. In this paper we touch on issues of training to
audition students in the framework of a business professional communication. The main objective
of the business of professional communication - a productive cooperation of business partners, and
often with different interests and strategic positions, because in the process of communication in the
field of business communication transmission and reception of information on the merits of the case
and the relationship between the partners, and its success depends on how accurately partner
receives this information.
It is known that in situations of business skills required for active listening a) a common
understanding of messages, for example, while viewing a presentation when it is important to listen
to the heart, and not the details of a message; b) understanding of the details, for example, in the
negotiations, when it is necessary to understand just about anything that they say partners; c)
understanding of the sample, ie, a specific information, for example, at a business meeting, possibly
to block information that does not belong to us, but to actively listen to just the right information at
the railway station as we listen to only the information about our train; g) in order to be able to react
directly on the replica of the interlocutor in the conversation (e.g., a telephone); d) the other party to
show our interest in what he says, thereby building interpersonal relationships; e) at the same time
listening to office gossip at work, or just the perception of the background noise, which can help us
to work.
Based on the above, we set the goal to teach students the following types of listening - socalled Listening for gist (the main contents, with the extraction of basic information), when the text
is tapped for the purpose of hearing and fix in memory the most important information to identify
the main idea and the main subject of the message ; Listening for detail (a full understanding of the
content and meaning) - this kind of listening involves the complete, accurate and rapid
understanding of oral speech; Listening for specific information (extracting the necessary
information), whose goal is the isolation in the speech flow of necessary information. [6].
The Department of Foreign Languages were equipped and successfully operated two
linguistic - media audience. They are the basis of today's personal computer 32, where students can
view any modern video formats. These rooms require an expanded range of activities, based on
listening and spoken language practice, develop the ability to work with different amounts of
information that contributes to the formation of communicative competence of future specialists.
On employment in business English, we rely on laboratory practical work on listening, which
provides effective training of students in the field of professional communication in the work
program on the subject "Business foreign language." When teaching listening in situations of
business voice communication, we use authentic materials, which are characterized by the lexical
content and grammatical forms, situational adequacy of linguistic resources and offer a wide variety
of business communication patterns in a real context. Authentic videos are speech context that
allows students to immerse in a natural environment, where an important role is assigned to the
development of social competence of the trainees. Under the socio-cultural competence, we
understand competence, aimed at the formation of students' abilities to compare and highlight
cultural differences and laws of individual nations. Students should learn to recognize the different
situations of business voice and non-verbal communication, depending on the cultural
characteristics of a particular country.
Using authentic video in the process of learning a foreign language allows you to create in
students the ability to distinguish similarities and differences in the process of business
communication intercultural level. So videos showing the basics of business etiquette in Asian
countries («Cultural Differences - Going Global», «Doing Business in Japan», «Doing Business in
China») have the means to emotional and educating influence. With these videos, students learn that
the greetings in a number of countries have a national flavor, and are expressed in different ways.
For example, in some countries is not accepted to shake hands with women, but because you must
wait until the woman herself will stretch your hand. Two pressed together in front of chest palm Indian national greeting. In many countries, religion has an impact on business life: on schedule,
working months. Of the above films, students learn that in South-East Asia, Africa and the Middle
East business card should always stretch out your right hand, and in Japan it is served with both
hands, the right side of the partner.
Thus, we see that the use of video in the classroom helps students to not only hear what's
going on with the listening, but also to see the actors to observe the non-verbal behavior of the
characters and their surroundings makes it faster and better understand the situation. In addition, an
important aspect of learning to audition as part of business communication and information content
of a video, because they reflect the picture of reality. Authentic videos speedily than other sources,
reflect changes in the language of late, that is interesting to students and is the strongest motivation
and allow us to demonstrate a variety of situations that reflect the real conditions of the business
environment: meetings, negotiations, presentations, talking on the phone, travel, etc. . d. should be
remembered that it used to authentic audio and video recordings, primarily aimed at native
speakers, so it is often difficult for the perception of our students. [3] Therefore, we believe
effective to start with texts duration of the sound from 1.5 - 2 minutes (up to 900 characters and
gradually move to 3-4 minutes of sound (volume up to 1500-1800 characters) at the end of training.
As you know, an important aspect of learning business English is the formation of such
practical skills as job search, resume writing and interviewing in a foreign language. The success of
this depends not only on the level of foreign language knowledge, but also on the skills of the
candidate for the position to present themselves in the most favorable light. Therefore, we have a
whole collection of videos devoted to this problem - the preparation and conduct interviews
("Twelve Tips for Successful Interview", "Describe Your Greatest Strengths and Weaknesses", etc.)
Of all the types of negotiations are the most difficult talks on the phone. Phone - a fast and
convenient way of communication in the modern world. It allows to solve many problems in
business, to communicate with people without seeing them. Specificity of business communication
by telephone by the factor of communication at a distance. Intonation of speech interlocutor plays
an important role in conversation along with the content of speech. Particular attention should be
paid to the beginning and end of the communication, which should express the confidence and
value interlocutor in their positions, kindness and respect for others. As shown in the training
dialogue «Applying for a Job», before you call, and to apply for the position when applying for a
job, Miss Mary Martynas has thought of everything first questions that she would like to hear
answers from the employer, such as: 1. What will my responsibility be? 2. Is it full-time or part-time
position? 3. Can I make an employment from an interview? We see that the dialogue takes only a
few minutes, during which was received all the information of interest. This training material is
aimed at developing students' culture and ethics of business telephone communication.
For the successful application of authentic video in practice it is necessary to organize the
work with them. In the selection of the material, we take into account the following factors: Compatibility linguistic content of videos with the level of foreign language students; - Compliance
with the program theme video course "Business Foreign Language; - Relevance of the sociocultural content of movies; - Taking into account the specifics of the business professional in
situations of speech communication.
It is obvious that the films are useful in teaching the phonetic phenomena of speech, that is
allowed to hear and distinguish speech pronunciation of native speakers and their articulation of
sounds. The success of listening depends largely on what kind of visual landmarks has text, whether
it's necessary supports for storage. At the time, the resources of the Internet allow you to pick all the
above factors relevant texts for listening. This video magazine "The Economist", "The Guardian",
and the whole collection of clips of leading companies, and videos offered by groups of foreign
language learning in social networks, for example, Facebook, vkontakte, texts and listening to VOA
- «Voice of America" . Also, we have a You-tube were picked up about twenty movies with
animations and not related to the management, forms of business organization, and so on, with the
dubbing in English. Available for the training workshop "Business English" and manual
"Management and Business" (author Mikheev LP) Audio Texts these are a great addition.
Using movies (mostly movies we used BBC) contributes to the development of memory and
attention that is needed for teaching listening. In order to understand the content of the film,
students should focus and concentrate, which has a positive impact on the process of memorizing
the content aspect of the movie. Information about the location of events, the appearance of the
participants in the situation of communication, behavior, gestures, articulation contributes to a better
understanding of speech speaking. According to NV Eluhina, it is necessary "... to create in the
audience a microcosm of life around us with all the real, human relations and unity of purpose in
the practical use of the language" [2], and authentic materials, in turn, show the effect of the
language in a natural society. The video of great importance is attached to and different noise and
voice effects: phone calls, conversations passers, music, transport, and so on. D. So authentic
materials show events in certain situations, communication between people in their natural
For the development and improvement of skills of listening comprehension is necessary to
properly develop a complex auditive exercises. When working with audio and video footage all the
exercises can be divided into several stages. The first stage includes predtekstovye exercises that are
performed before the audition and help to remove the language difficulties and generate
communicative orientation speech, for example: 1) read the title of the video text and try to
determine what may be discussed in this text; 2) look at the list of words and their transfer, which
then are used in the speech of speakers; 3) read the questions and other tasks to the video text and
determine its basic content and others. As is known, the lexical difficulties are one of the main
causes of misunderstanding of foreign language text comprehension.
The second stage of work with authentic video films aimed at developing students' skills of
perception and understanding of authentic material and extract the desired information. At this
stage, we use the following exercises: 1) completing the sentence the word or expression; 2) fill in
the blanks in the sentences with suitable words or expressions from the text listened; 3) read the
statements and determine whether they are true or false; et al.
At the final stage of the final, which includes control of understanding of the material, we
suggest the following exercises: 1) complete and add dialogue (we missed one of the speaker); 2)
Line up of the video text in a logical sequence; 3) make a video text annotation to a review, share
your opinion, and others. Purpose of this stage is the use of video text as a means of further
developing communication skills, namely, a detailed retelling; preparation monologue statements on
the subject of the text; drawing up a dialogue on the topic of the text; role-playing games, which are
based on the plot of a movie or situation. These types of work to help the students to apply the
information they have heard in practice. [1]
It is well known that the learning skills of listening promotes independent movies and TV
shows in a foreign language, taking into account the fact that now everyone has the opportunity to
hear and see a wide variety of authentic software on the Internet, including those based on factual
information, for example, talk show, short advertisements, videos.
In conclusion, it should be noted that learning a foreign language means authentic footage will
only be successful when the process is carried out in stages and includes a selection of exercises
appropriate to the level of trainees and training consistent with the goals and objectives and has a
communicative focus. Achieving a high rate of learning confirms the overall efficiency of the
developed methods of teaching business communication and efficiency of the use of computer
technology as a means of organizing training for process optimization at certain stages of student
