About Myself
Let me introduce myself. My name is Igor Bodrov. I’m seventeen
years old. I’m a first-year student at the University. I’m tall, slender, darkhaired boy with blue eyes. I live in Kiev. I have a brother and a sister. My elder
brother Sergey is twenty, he studies at the Kiev National University, and he will
be a lawyer. My younger sister Olga is ten, she studies at s chool. By the way,
we have one more member of our family, cat Ryzhik. We love him very much.
My Mum is forty-two, she is a Spanish teacher. My Dad is forty-five,
he is a computer programmer. My grandparents are already retired. My
Grandma likes gardening, and Grandpa likes fishing. They live in our city and
visit us at weekends.
I have many friends. We spend a lot of time together. We play football,
volleyball, basketball. In summer we like swimming in rivers and lakes. Besides
studying, I go in for sports. I play tennis. It’s an exciting game, and I like it very
much. Sometimes I take part in different tennis competition. I have many
interests and hobbies, for example, sports, travelling, music.
My parents wanted me to be a computer programmer, like my Dad.
But I’m not sure because I’m not very good in mathematics. I like computer
games, I like to surf the Net, to communicate with people in different social nets
and forums. I even have my own blog. But I don’t want a computer
programming to be my profession. Also I like tennis, but I don’t want to be a
professional sportsman. You can ask me, why? Because I have another passion!
I’m fond of travelling so I’d like to work for a tour company. I hope my dreams
will come true!

Higher Education in Great Britain
All British universities are private institutions. Students have to pay
fees and living costs, but every student may obtain a personal grant from local
authorities. If the parents do not earn much money, their children will receive a
full grant which will cover all the expenses. Students studying for first degrees
are known as “undergraduates”. New undergraduates in some universities are
called “fresher”. They have lectures, there are regular seminars.
After three or four years the students will take their finals. Those who
pass examinations successfully are given the Bachelor’s degree: Bachelor of
Arts for History or Bachelor of Science. The first postgraduate degree is Master
of Arts, Master of Science. Doctor of Philosophy is the highest degree. It is
given for some original research work which is an important contribution to
knowledge. Open Days are a chance for applicants to see the university, meet
students and ask questions. All this will help you decide whether you have
made the right choice.
The most famous universities in Britain are Oxford and Cambridge.
They are the two oldest English universities and they both have a long and
eventful history of their own. Oxford and Cambridg e are regarded as being
academically superior to other universities and as giving special privilege and
prestige. Cambridge University consists of a group of 32 independent colleges.

The first students came to the city in 1209 and studied in the schools of the
cathedral and monasteries.
Further education in Britain is for people over 16 taking courses at
various levels up to the standard required for entry to higher education. The
Open University offers degrees for people who do not have a formal education
and qualifications, or who are older. Students study at home and then post them
off to a tutor for marking. Most courses take six years and students get a
number of credits for each year’s work. The Open University was founded in
1969 and started its first course in 1971. About 120, 000 people have enrolled
since then.

Great Britain
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated
on the British Isles. It consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and
Northern Ireland. England, Wales and Scotland occupy the territory of Great
Britain. Northern Ireland is situated in the northern part of Ireland. The territory
of the United Kingdom is about 244 square kilometers. It’s the 75th place
among other countries in the world. The population is over 55 million. About
80% of the population is urban. The capital of the country is London.
The surface of Great Britain varies greatly. The northern and western
part of the country is mountains and is called the Highlands. All the rest (south,
east and centre) is a vast plain which is called the Lowlands. The mountains are
not very high. The rivers are not long. The most important of them are the
Severn and the Thames. There are many beautiful lakes in the mountainous
parts of the country.
The mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of the Gulf
Stream influence the climate of Great Britain. The weather in GB is very
changeable. A fine morning can change into a wet afternoon and evening.
Great Britain is a highly developed industrial country. It is known as
one of the world's largest producers and exporters of iron and steel products,
machinery and electronics, chemicals and textile, aircraft and navigation
equipment. One of the chief industries of the country is shipbuilding.
Great Britain is a country with old cultural traditions and customs. The
most famous educational centers are Oxford and Cambridge universities.
The United Kingdom is a monarchy and the Queen is the head of state.
But in practice it is ruled by the elected government with a Prime M inister at
the head.

The USA
The USA is the most powerful and highly developed country of the
world. It is situated in the central part of the North American continent. Its
western coast is washed by the Pacific Ocean and its eastern coast is washed by
the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The USA is separated from Canada
in the north by the 49th parallel and the Great Lakes and from Mexico in the
south by a line following the Rio Grande River. The total area of the USA is
over 9 million square kilometers.
The continental part of the USA consists of the highland regions and
two lowland regions. The highland regions are the Appalachia mountains in the
east and the Cordillera in the west. The principal rivers of the USA are the
Mississippi, the longest river in the world (7,330 km) and the Hudson river. The
climate of the USA differs greatly from one part of the country to another. The
coldest climate is in the northern part, where there is heavy snow in winter and
the temperature may go down to 40 degrees below zero. The south has a
subtropical climate, with temperature as high as 49 degrees in summer.
The population of the United States of America is about 250 million
people, who are called Americans. Most of the people live in towns and the
population of the countryside is becoming smaller and smaller. For many
decades the USA has been the place where lots of people sought refuge from
persecution for political or religious beliefs. That's why in America there are
representatives of practically all racial and national groups.
The capital of the USA is Washington. It is situated in the District of
Columbia.
The USA is a highly developed industrial state. Its agriculture is also
highly mechanized. There are coal-mines in the Cordillera Mountains, in the

Kansas City region. Iron is mined near the Great Lakes. The USA has rich oilfields in California, Texas and some other regions. It occupies one of the first

exaggeration to say that cars have become the symbol of American way of life.
The vehicles produced at such companies as Ford and the General Motors are
known world-wide. The motor-car industry is concentrated in and around
Detroit. Ship-building is developed along the Atlantic coast and in San
Francisco. The textile industry is to be found in the north -east and in the south
of the country.
The USA has a highly developed railway system. It also has the best
network of roads in the world. They are called highways.
The USA is a federal country of 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The political life of the country has always been dominated by the two major
parties: the Democratic party and the Republican party. The President, elected
by the whole nation for four years, is head of the state and the Government.

Recruitment refers to the process of attracting, screening, and
selecting a qualified person for a job. At the strategic level it may involve the
development of an employer brand which includes an 'employee offering'.
The stages of the recruitment process include: job analysis and
developing a person specification; the sourcing of candidates by networking,
advertising, or other search methods; matching candidates to job requirements
and screening individuals using testing (skills or personality assessment);
assessment of candidates' motivations and their fit with organizational
requirements by interviewing and other assessment techniques. The recruitment
process also includes the making and finalizing of job offers and the induction
and on boarding of new employees.
Depending on the size and culture of the organization recruitment may
be undertaken in-house by managers, human resource generalists and / or
recruitment specialists. Alternatively parts of all of the process might be
undertaken by either public sector employment agencies, or commercial
recruitment agencies, or specialist search consultancies.
There are a variety of recruitment approaches and most organizations
will utilize a combination of two or more of these. In summary five basic
models more commonly found are:

An in-house personnel or human resources function may in
some case still conduct all stages of the recruitment process. In the smallest
organizations recruitment may be left to individual managers. More frequently
external service providers may undertake the more specialized aspects of the
recruitment process.

Outsourcing of recruitment to an external provider may be the
solution for some small businesses and at the other extreme very large
organizations

Employment agencies are established as both publicly-funded
services and as commercial private sector operations. Services may support
permanent, temporary, or casual worker recruitment.

Executive search firms for executive and professional
positions. These firms operate across a range of models such as continge ncy or
retained approaches and also hybrid models where advertising is also used to
ensure a flow of candidates alongside relying on networking as their main
source of candidates.

Internet recruitment services including recruitment websites
and job search engines used to gather as many candidates as possible by
advertising a position over a wide geographic area.

Employee relations
The term employee relation describes the relationship that exists
between employees at the work place. It involves aspects of trade union and
union practices with the aim of looking after the welfare and conditions of
employees at the work place. Employee relations may be defined as those
policies and practices which are concerned with the management and regulation
of relationships between the organization, the individual, staff members, an d
groups of staff within the working environment. It involves the induction

programs that make the new employees understand what they are supposed to
do in relation with other employees of the organization. It involves team work,
group processes and team leader training.
Employee relations look at an individual as someone who should
uphold ethics and professional conduct. All workers whether from top
management or middle management should behave responsibly that uphold the
image of the organization. There should be a high level of integrity, honesty,
trust and so on.
Employee relations put into perspective the safe and pleasant
atmosphere for workers. Each worker is supposed to have respect for other
workers so as to live in peace and improve the work en vironment.
There is also the aspect of trust as far as employee relations are
concerned. Trust is defined as a firm belief that a person may be relied on. Trust
is also the belief that those on whom we depend will meet our expectations on
them. In employee relations, an organization that trusts its employees is more
likely to produce better results at the work place than in one where trust is not
taken seriously.
Employee relations are governed by existing labor laws, related
jurisprudence and administrative rules and regulations on the matter. The laws
are primarily focused on the relationship between employers and employee
who, for practical reasons, group themselves into union for more effective
bargaining power. Employees are granted by these laws the right to unionize,
picket and strike while employers are granted the right to seek injunction and
lockouts. Issues that usually arise out of this employer-employee relationship
include, but not limited to, the following: hours of work, overtime pay, benefits,
working conditions and so on.

Monetary and Non-monetary Motivators
Business owners need to ensure that their employees are productive
and eager to do the best job possible--this is especially true during today's
challenging economic times.
Money has been recognized as a chief source of satisfying the needs
of people. Money is also helpful to satisfy the social needs by possessing
various material items. Therefore, money not only satisfies psychological needs
but also the security and social needs. Th erefore, in many factories, various
wage plans and bonus schemes are introduced to motivate and stimulate the
people to work. Employees clearly want as much money as possible based on
their skills and experience, their past performance and their time with your
business. They want additional rewards for exceptional performance, a package
that enables them to live a decent lifestyle and a salary or wage that’s
comparable to that of their colleagues. Money is effective when it is directly
tied to an employee's ideas or accomplishments. Nevertheless, if not coupled
with other, non-monetary motivators, its motivating effects are short-lived.
Study after study has found that the most effective motivators of
workers are non-monetary. Monetary systems are insufficient motivators.
Proven non-monetary positive motivators foster team spirit and include
recognition, responsibility, and advancement. Managers who recognize the
"small wins" of employees, promote participatory environments, and treat
employees with fairness and respect will find their employees to be more highly
motivated. The most effective rewards, such as letters of commendation and
time off from work, enhanced personal fulfillment and self-respect. Over the
longer term, sincere praise and personal gestures are far more effective and
more economical than awards of money alone. In the end, a program that
combines monetary reward systems and satisfies intrinsic, self-actualizing
needs may be the most potent employee motivator

The development of good industrial or labor relations is in the best
interests of any government. Labor relations are dictated in a large part by the
government of a nation and the various regulations it provides to industry
regarding the treatment of employees.
Authorities outline labor rights, also known as workers' rights, to
protect employees. Workers’ rights are often a matter of law and can require
employers to do certain things and prevent them from doing other things. While
labor rights can greatly vary from one place to another, some common
examples include the right to timely payment of wages, the right to breaks, and
the right to safe and humane working condition s.
The absence of labor rights could create difficult and unfair situations
for employees. History holds many examples of ways employers abuse their
positions. This includes forcing employees to work excessive hours without
proper rest and without paying them in a proper or timely fashion. Without laws

to provide leverage, in many instances, people would be helpless even when
they recognized the injustice of their situations.
Many workers’ rights are the result of the efforts put forth by labor
unions. These are groups that act on behalf of groups of workers to ensure they
are treated fairly. These groups also act as watchdogs to prevent the violation or
denial of the labor rights of their members.
All employees may not have the same labor rights even though they
are in the same location. In the United States (US), for example, states are
generally allowed to form the majority of workers’ rights, which apply to
employees within their jurisdiction.
Having several jurisdictions of workers' rights is not unique to the US.
In Canada, for example, the federal government outlines some laws while
provinces are granted the liberty to outline others. The European Union (EU)
also outlines certain labor guidelines for its members, while allowing individual
countries the authority to outline others.

Составление любого делового письма на английском языке
подчиняется общим правилам:

Весь текст разделяется на абзацы без использования
красной строки.

В верхнем левом углу письма указывается полное имя
отправителя или название компании с адресом.

Дата отправления указывается тремя строками ниже или в
верхнем правом углу письма.

Далее указывается имя адресата и название компании,
которой письмо предназначено, а также ее адрес (с новой строки).

Основной текст должен быть помещен в центральной
части письма.

Письмо начинается с обращения: “Dear Personnel
Director”, если автор знает должность адресата и “Dear Sir or Madam”, если
нет.

Главная мысль письма может начинаться с причины
обращения: "I am writing to you to ..."

Обычно
письмо
заканчивается
высказыванием
благодарности ("Thank you for your prompt help...") и приветствием
"Yours sincerely,"

Четырьмя строками ниже ставится полное имя автора и
