Agatha
Christie’s
works
Agatha Miller
was born on
September 15,
1890 in Torquay,
Devon, in the South
West England to
the family of well
to do American
migrants
Frederick Alvah
Miller and Clara
Boehmer. She was
the third child in
the family.
The girl received
a home
education; she
learnt to play
the mandolin and
piano at home.
She began
writing at the
end of the First
World War.
Her first novel, «The
Mysterious Affair
at Styles» was
published in 1920.
That was the first
appearance of
Hercule Poirot,
who became one of
the most famous
private detectives
since Sherlock
Holmes.
The writer
created over 40
novels
featuring
Hercule Poirot,
the readers
liked him very
much, but
Christie had not
great love for
her own
creation.
When Agatha
Cristie got tired
of Hercule
Poirot she
invented Miss
Mar-pie, a
deceptively mild
old lady with
her own method
of investigation.
Agatha Christie
became generally
recognized in 1926,
after the
publishing of her
novel «The Murder
of Roger Ackroyd».
It is still
considered her
masterpiece.
Many of her novels
and short stories
have been filmed.
in 1952 Christie’s
play «The
Mousetrap» was
debuted in London.
The Mousetrap, her
most famous play,
is now the longestrunning play in
history of world
theatre.
The most famous
works by Agatha
Christie are «And
then there were
none», «Murder on
the Orient
express», «Poirot
investigates», «The
man in the brown
suit» and many
others.
The last Poirot
book, The
Curtain,
appeared
shortly before
the writer's
death, and the
last Miss
Marple story,
The Sleeping
Murder, and her
autobiography
were published
after her
death.
Agatha Christie
wrote not only
detective
stories but also
romances, she
published them
under the name
Mary
Westmacott.
Agatha Christie
is known all
over the world
as the Queen of
Crime. She wrote
78 detective
novels, 19 plays,
and 6 romantic
novels.
Her books have
been translated
into 103 foreign
languages. They
are the third
best-selling
books in the world
(after
Shakespeare's
works and the
Bible).
I like detective
stories. Agatha
Christie is my
favorite English
crime novelist and
short story writer.
She was also the
author of the
world’s longest play
«The Mousetrap».
Many of Christie's
books and short
stories have been
turned into
successful movies.
