William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, in
Stratford – on – Avon.
He wrote more than thirty plays. These are usually divided
into four categories: histories, comedies, tragedies and romances.
His best known works are: Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar,
Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra.
The most popular phrase till nowadays is:
For never was a story of more woe
than this of Juliet and her Romeo.

Oscar Wilde
Oscar Wilde was born on 16 October in 1854 in Dublin,
Irish writer Oscar Wilde is best known for the novel The
Picture of Dorian Gray. Besides this novel there are a lot of
plays such as A woman of No Importance, An Ideal
Husband, Lady Windermere’s Fan and of course his
amazing tales The Nightingale and the Rose, The Happy
Prince, The Selfish Giant, The Birthday of Infanta.
The Canterville Ghost
The Canterville Ghost is a popular short story widely adapted for
the screen and stage. When I was a child it was my favourite cartoon.
Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie was born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay,
England. She was a mystery writer who was one of the world’s
top selling authors with works like Murder on the Orient Express
and The Mystery of the Blue Train.
Poirot and Marple are Christie’s most well – known
detectives.
Conclusion
I have told you about authors whose works I
have known since my childhood and still love
them.
Besides these outstanding writers, there are a
lot of other talented authors whose contribution
in English literature is great , such as: Charles
Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, Bernard Shaw, Jane
Austen and others.
