The person of the century
I think the person of century is Clinton
Richard Dawkins. He is an English
ethologist, evolutionary biologist and
author of popular scientific books.
Clinton Richard Dawkins is the head of
the department of Charles Simonyi of
the Oxford University. His task is
acquaintance of general public with
achievements of science.
Childhood
Clinton Richard Dawkins was
born in Nairobi, British Kenya,
on 26 March 1941.
He is the son of Jean Mary
Vyvyan and Clinton John
Dawkins. His father was an
agricultural civil servant in the
British Colonial Service in
Nyasaland (now Malawi). His
family returned to England in
Oxford when Dawkins was
eight.
Childhood
Both
his
parents
were
interested in natural sciences.
They could answer Dawkins's
questions in scientific terms.
He was a Christian until
halfway through his teenage
years. He concluded
the
theory of evolution was a better
explanation
for
life's
complexity
and
ceased
believing in a god.

Education
From 1954 to 1959 Dawkins learned
at Oundle School in Northampton
shire.
He studied Zoology at Balliol College
in Oxford. He had a great success in
the study of animal behaviour.
Dawkins was tutored by Nobel Prizewinning
ethologist
Nikolaas
Tinbergen. Tinbergen was a pioneer
in the study of animal behaviour.
Dawkins received for his work his MA
and DPhil degrees by 1966.

Evolutionary biology
In his scientific works Dawkins
investigates
behavior of
animals. He asserts that the
gene is the principal unit of
selection in evolution.
This
view is the most clearly line in
his books.
He notes in his work “The
Selfish Gene” (1976) that "all
life evolves by the differential
survival of replicating entities".
Evolutionary biology
In his next famous book “The
Extended Phenotype “(1982) he
describes natural selection. He
introduces the concept that the
phenotypic effects on a gene.
Gap with religion
Richard Dawkins has an
own view on the religion. He
criticizes an idea of the
highest intellect.
Advocacy of atheism

Dawkins is an outspoken
atheist and a supporter of
various atheist, secular and
humanistic organizations. He
is a patron of the British
Humanist Association, and a
supporter of the Brights
movement.
Advocacy of atheism

Dawkins became a prominent
critic of religion. His book “The
God Delusion” in 2006 became an
international best seller. In the
book Dawkins contends that a
supernatural creator almost
certainly does not exist and that
religious faith is a delusion—"a
fixed false belief".
Care of the future of the planet
Richard Dawkins writes and
transfers books for children.
It is his important part of
educational work. "God as
illusion“ is the book and the
television film. He considers
that God does not exist. The
state in the 21st century
supports opening of Christian
and Muslim schools. From
training programs everything
that is connected with the
Darvinian theory of an origin
of life is withdrawn.
Personal life


Dawkins has been married
three times and has one
daughter. His wives were
ethologist Marian Stamp,
Eve Barham, actress Lalla
Ward.
Awards and recognition
Richard Dawkins has a doctor's degree (D.Sc).
Also he has honorable degrees of different
universities.
For his works Dawkins got many awards. There is
a silver medal of Zoological society of London
(1989), Michael Faraday's award, an award of the
American humanistic association "Humanist of
Year" (1996), Kistler (2001) award and other
awards.
Intellectual property
Influential editions – Prospect,
Time, The Daily Telegraph enter
his name in lists of the most
outstanding thinkers of our time.
He lives in full accordance with the
phrase: "Most likely, there is no
god. Stop worrying, enjoy life".
I read the book “The God
Delusion”. I liked a part of
thoughts and opposed some ideas.
