There are three well-known
universities in the world
But few people know that University
of Oxford and University of
Cambridge located in the UK .
University of Oxford
The oldest English-speaking
university in the world , as well
as the first university in the UK
Oxford is a place of great beauty
Oxford is a county town of
Oxfordshire, southern
England.
The university is made up of a variety of institutions,
including 38 constituent colleges and a full range of
academic departments which are organized into four
divisions.
Oxford is the home of several notable
scholarships, including the Clarendon
Scholarship which was launched in 2001 and
the Rhodes Scholarship which has brought
graduate students to study at the university
for more than a century.
The University of Oxford has no known
foundation date. Teaching at Oxford existed in
some form as early as 1096, but it is unclear
when a university came into being.
After less than a hundred years , Oxford has
achieved a higher status among other
educational institutions received the praise of
the popes , kings and scholars because of its
antiquity , curriculum , doctrine and
privileges .
Throughout its history,
a sizeable number of Oxford
alumni, known as Oxonians,
have become notable in
many varied fields
Oxford is one of the longest serving and most renowned university
cities in the world. This ancient seat of learning still maintains many
traditions and customs.
British students do not have to pay to go to university, but do need
money to live away from home while they are studying.
Some students whose parents do not earn a lot of money are given a
grant (money) from the local education authority.

Bodleian Library. It is one
of the most important
libraries in the world with
its 3,000,000 books and
50,000 manuscripts. There
is the Radcliffe Camera, a
classical rotunda now used
as a reading-room for the
Bodleian.
