The concept of jazz
Jazz - a musical tradition and style of music, formed by African and European music traditions in
the early 20th century in African American communities in the southern United States. His West
African origin is blues and swing notes, improvisation, polyrhythms and syncopation. It`s music
was used at first time in Chicago in 1915.
History of the birth of jazz
African music came to America with
the slaves of the dark. In the
homeland of the African music it is
an essential part of various rituals.

played a decisive role in the

The characteristic features of African folk music are:
rhythmic polyphony
The melody and harmony here are almost in its infancy.
Jazz was not only music, jazz was a way of life for
many young girls and boys, who hoped run from
monotonous routine of rural America.
Development of jazz
The largest center of jazz in the United States began in New Orleans. A major
role in the city's life was music. The city had several large theaters where
were symphony orchestras and opera companies. The basis of their
repertoire were European music and drama. The theaters also sounded the
music and the minstrels, or as it was called, "Music plantations“.
In New Orleans formed a prosperous society of free people colored Creoles. Many of them have been released the
abolition of slavery in the South. They were isolated from the
Negro lives. They spoke in French, maintained contact with
European settlers and, maintained their social position of the
In New Orleans, there were many ensembles, consisting of Creoles of color that played marches
and dance music. These ensembles working in the area, called Black Storyville. Storyville District
began in 1899. In New Orleans, there were two Storyville. One for whites and one for blacks. It
is in black Storyville at the beginning of the XX century. and started “Jazz Fever”.
By the end of the XIX century. New Orleans was the most multi-ethnic city and the music of the
New World. Music of all kinds permeated the life of New Orleans society. Decisive contribution
to its occurrence have skinned performers.
Distribution of jazz began after the closing of Storyville. But this does
not mean that the New Orleans jazz was only phenomenon. Jazz music
were in St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis - the birthplace of ragtime.
Later jazz musicians and orchestras participated in the special mobile
concerts: for example, a well-known musician Jelly Roll Morton, Tom
Brown's band, "Creole Band» Freddie Kepparda.
Orchestras gave concerts on ships that made flights to Mississippi.
Such as brilliant jazz orchestras Bix Beyderbeyk, Jess Stacy. The jazz
band played the piano future wife Lil Hardin Armstrong Louis.
In the studio «Victor» at first time jazz music was played february 26,
1917. It was the song "Livery Stable Blues" jazz band «Original
Dixieland Jazz Band».
In the 20-30-ies of Chicago and New York were "hotbeds"
of jazz. It is connected with the names of the great
masters of jazz Louis Armstrong, Eddie Condon, Jimmy
Mack Partlanda, Art Hodes, Barrett Deems and, of
course, Benny Goodman, who did much to popularize
jazz music. The era of jazz took place not only in the
cities. This phenomenon also occurred in small towns,
where boys and girls were smoking, drinking alcohol,
drove by car and kissed the rear seat. Jazz played in
dance halls and speakeasies throughout the country.
My favorite jazz musician is Louise Armstrong. In 2012, in the town of
Valdai held vocal competition, which I won the first place with the song
"Hello, Dolly", lyrics previously been translated into Russian.
And now I say to you why I prefer jazz. I prefer jazz because it reflects the
state of my soul, with all its modulations, with her sadness, her smile and
elation. Jazz for me is not just a passion for music, jazz - it's my life.
