«The shorter and less often you write, the more and more often you publish» Anton Pavlovich Chekhov Anton Chekhov was born on January 29th, 1860 in Taganrog, which is a portcity in south of Russia. He was the third of six surviving children. His father was physically abusive which was hidden from prying eyes. His mother was an excellent story-teller and a kind-hearted woman. Anton Chekhov studied medicine in Moscow. He was prouder of his medical knowledge than of his writing talent. While in college, Chekhov wrote humorous sketches for comic paper. He collected the best ones in a book called Motley Stories, which became popular. World recognition Established as a comic writer, Chekhov began writing plays now famous all over the world. He was closely connected with the Moscow Art Theatre. This Theatre put on all his plays from The Seagull to The Cherry Orchard with constant success. Chekhov was chronically ill with T.B. Because of his tuberculosis he had to live in the Crimea. He died at 44. Chekhov had an immense influence on the 20 th-century drama.
