CO-poor hydrogen can be produced by reforming oxygenates, such as ethylene glycol,
in water over Pt catalysts. The expansion of the gas bubbles formed in the process by
the vaporization of water results in a decrease in the partial pressures of H2 and CO2,
thereby favoring the water–gas shift and lowering the CO concentration. This process
leads to the production of fuel-cell-grade H2 at high pressures. For more information
see the Communication by J. A. Dumesic and R. R. Davda on page 4068 ff.
