A High-Yield, General Method for the Catalytic Formation of Oxygen
16 - 057 Heterocycles. — A palladium-catalyzed synthesis of aryl ethers involving
primary and secondary alcohols in high yields is developed. An important issue
in this work is the development of ligands (I) to (IV) for which the relative
rates of reductive elimination and β-hydride elimination are small. In addition,
cyclization of enantiopure alcohols results in cyclization without racemization
under these reaction conditions.
