Photophysical and Photocatalytic Activities of a Novel Photocatalyst
BaZn1/3Nb 2/3O3. — The new ABO3 perovskite photocatalyst of title is synthesized by
solid state reaction of BaCO3, ZnO, and Nb2O5 (1200 °C, 32 h). The rate of H2 evolution
from MeOH/H2O solution over BaZn1/3 Nb2/3O3 with 5.0 wt.% Pt cocatalyst under irradiation (400 W Hg lamp) is about 2685.7 µmol/(h·g catal.). The photocatalyst also
splits pure water into H2 and O2 in a stoichiometric ratio with NiOx and RuO2 cocatalysts under UV irradiation. The formation rates of H2 and O2 from pure water in the
case of 1.0 wt.% NiOx cocatalyst are 291.22 and 145.61 mol/h·g, respectively. —
