Car Exhaust Catalysis from First Principles: Selective NO Reduction under
Excess O2 Conditions on Ir. — The selective NO reduction on Ir under excess O2 is

characterized by combining energetic data obtained from density functional theory with thermodynamic calculations. Excess O2 can readily poison the Ir catalyst starting from a low oxygen coverage on the surface. To prevent oxygen poisoning
of the surface, the presence of reductants is essential. NO reduction is sensitive to the
