Precipiton Reagents: Precipiton Phosphines for Solution-Phase Reductions. —
Reductions with precipiton phosphines (I) and (II) afford amines and aldehydes in good
to excellent yields in the Staudinger reaction and in the reduction of secondary ozonides. The reactions proceed free of phosphine oxide without resorting to extractions
or chromatography. A triplet sensitizer, erythrosin B (ERB), is found to be highly effective for the photoisomerization and to eliminate [2 + 2] cycloaddition by-products
that can form upon long irradiation. The sensitizer is easily removed from solution by
addition of MP-carbonate or filtration through SiO2. — (BOSANAC, T.; WILCOX*,
