Novel Knoevenagel-Type Reaction via Titanium Enolate Derived from Ti(O-i-Pr)4
Diketene. — A titanium enolate, generated from diketene (I) and 2 equiv. of
45- 072 and
Ti(O-iPr)4 (optimized ratio), gives Knoevenagel products with various aldehydes. The
(E)/(Z)-selectivity of the present novel reaction type is in many cases in contrast to the
selectivity obtained by conventional Knoevenagel reaction of isopropyl acetoacetate
with aldehydes under basic conditions, especially in the case of aromatic aldehydes.
