Supramolecular Self-Assembled Molecules as Organic Directing Agent for Synthesis of Zeolites. — Zeolite A structures exhibiting high Si/Al ratios up to infinity
(pure silica) are synthesized from aqueous solutions of Si(O-Et)4, Al(O-iPr)3, Me4NOH,
and GeO2 using a supramolecular organic structure-directing agent obtained by self-assembly of 4-methyl-2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-1H,5H-pyrido[3.2.1-ij] quinolinium hydroxide (autoclave, 408—423 K, 2—7 d, 90% yield). The samples are characterized by
powder XRD. The highly hydrophobic pure-silica zeolite A can be used for hydrocarbon separations that avoid oligomerization reactions, whereas materials with high
Si/Al ratios give excellent shape-selective cracking additives for increasing propylene
