Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Cu-Rich Ce—Mn—Cu Intermetallics. — The three compounds CeMn 0.85Cu5.15 (I), CeMn 1.3Cu 4.7 (II), and
CeMn2.25Cu 8.75 (III) existing in the title system are characterized by their transport and
magnetic properties. As revealed by powder and single crystal XRD, (I) crystallizes in
the space group Pnma with Z = 4, (II) in the space group I4/mmm with Z = 2, and (III)
in the space group P4/mbm with Z = 2. The Mn ions order ferromagnetically near 50 K
in compound (I), while the resistivity exhibits Kondo like behavior. There is no clear
evidence of a bulk magnetic phase transition below 300 K in the other two compounds.
Heat capacity data indicate a strongly correlated electronic ground state in all three
