Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Ba2La 2MnW2O12. — The title compound is synthesized from mixtures of La2O3, BaCO3, MnCO3, and WO3 in the ratio of 1:2:1:2
(1200 °C, 2 h in flowing 4% H 2/Ar) and characterized by XPS and magnetic susceptibility measurements. As revealed by powder XRD, Ba2La2MnW2O12 crystallizes in the
rhombohedral space group R3m. The structure consists of close-packed [AO3] arrays
in a sequence of (hcch)3, wherein the Mn(II) and W(VI) cations occupy the octahedral
sites in three of every four layers. Within the perovskite blocks the Mn(II) layer is sandwiched and isolated by two W(VI) layers, thus the title compound behaves as a paramagnet down to low temperature. — (LI, Z.; SUN, J.; YOU, L.; WANG, Y.; LIN*, J.;
