Phase Relationships and Low Temperature Heat Capacities of Alloys in the
Y5Si4—Y5Ge 4 Pseudo Binary System. — Y 5Si xGe 4-x (x = 0—4) phases are characterized by powder XRD and heat capacities in the temperature range 4—350 K. Y5Si 4
crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P1121/a (Gd5Si2Ge2-type structure) and
Y5Ge4 in the space group Pnma (Sm5Ge4-type structure). Two extended solid solutions
exist in the system: one, with x ranging from 4 to 3.5 crystallizes in the monoclinic
space group P1121/a (Gd5Si2Ge 2-type structure), and the other with x ranging from 3 to
0 crystallizes in the space group Pnma (Sm5Ge4-type structure). The heat capacity behavior for all alloys is typical of normal metals with Debye temperatures rising from
240 to 330 K as the concentration of Si increases. — (PECHARSKY, A. O.;
