Syntheses, Structures, Second-Harmonic Generating, and Ferroelectric Properties of Tungsten Bronzes: A6M2M' 8O30 (A: Sr2+, Ba2+, or Pb 2+; M: Ti 4+, Zr4+, or Hf4+;
M': Nb5+ or Ta 5+). — The title compounds are synthesized by solid state reactions of
stoichiometric amounts of the corresponding metal carbonates or PbO, TiO2, ZrO2,
HfO2, Nb2O5, and Ta2O5 (1250—1450 °C, 60 h). As revealed by powder XRD,
Ba6Ti 2Nb 8O30, Ba6Ti2Ta8O30, Ba6Zr2Nb8O30, Ba6Zr2Ta8O30, Ba6Hf2Nb8O30 , and
Ba6Hf 2Ta8O30 crystallize in the orthorhombic space group P4bm, Sr6Ti2Nb8O30 and
Sr6Ti2Ta8O30 in the space group Pba2, and Pb6Ti2Nb8O30 in the space group Cm2m. All
the materials exhibit second-order nonlinear optical behavior and ferroelectric properties, as demonstrated by hysteresis loops. — (CHI, E. O.; GANDINI, A.; OK, K. M.;
