WO2Cl2 Nanotubes and Nanowires. — Title nanotubes and nanowires are prepared

of ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate for several days (90% yield, approximately 1:1 ratio of nanotubes to nanowires). The samples are characterized by TEM.
The nanotubes/nanowires exhibit diameters in the range 30—80 nm and can be up to
5 µm in length. The tubes/wires have the potential to act as intercalation hosts with attendant changes in the electronic, ionic, and optical properties. However, the confined
