Enhancement Effect of Illumination on the Photoluminescence of Water-Soluble
Nanocrystals: Toward Highly Fluorescent CdTe/CdS Core—Shell Struc50- 011 CdTe
ture. — The photoluminescence intensity of thioglycolic acid capped CdTe is greatly
enhanced by illumination. The illumination leads to a solid CdS shell structure on
CdTe. The water-soluble CdTe/CdS core—shell type nanocrystals exhibit enhanced
photoluminescence quantum yields of more than 80% at room temperature, which
makes these nanocrystals potentially useful in electroluminescence devices as emitting
materials, or in biological and biomedical research fields. Beside the photoluminescence enhancement effect, a useful synthetic route for producing water-soluble and
highly fluorescent CdTe/CdS core—shell nanocrystals is provided. — (BAO, H.;
