The [NH3Cl]+ Ion. — The title ion, the first stable, simple inorganic cation containing
a N—Cl bond, is prepared circumventing the explosiveness and thermal instability of
the parent NH2Cl molecule by using the safe organosilicon compound (I) as precursor.
The existence of the [NH3Cl]+ ion is confirmed by its vibrational and 14 N and 1H NMR
spectra as well as by theoretical (MP2, B3LYP, CCSD(T)) calculations. The [NH3Cl]+
salts (II) are obtained in high yields besides minor amounts of the corresponding N H+4
salts. The compounds are stable above room temperature. — (SCHNEIDER*, S.;
