Interwoven Pair of Open Frameworks in the Thiosphosphate K6Yb 3(PS4)5. —
Orange polyhedral crystals of the title compound are grown in a potassium thiophosphate flux starting with a mixture of Yb, P2S5, K2S, and elemental sulfur in a 1:2:2:4
molar ratio (700 °C, 96 h, 90% yield). As revealed by single crystal XRD at -100 °C,
K6Yb3(PS4)5 crystallizes in the space group C2/c with Z = 8. The compound possesses
an intricate, three-dimensional interlocked structure consisting of two identical,
three-dimensional ∞3[Yb3(PS 4)5]6- sublattices, which are related by an inversion center.
Magnetic measurements show Curie Weiss behavior from 50 to 300 K. — (AITKEN,
