From Discrete to Extended Guests: A Novel Supramolecular [Hg6As4](AgCl3)2 Assembly Featuring One-Dimensional (AgCl3)2- Anions. — Single crystals of the title
compound are obtained from the reaction of a 3:4:2 molar mixture of Hg2Cl2, As, and
Ag (680 K, sealed silica tube, 5 d). [Hg6As4](AgCl3)2 crystallizes in the monoclinic
space group I2/a with Z = 4 (single crystal XRD at 173 K). The structure consists of a
2three-dimensional cationic framework, [Hg6 As 4+
4 ], which contains anionic [A gC l3 ]
chains formed by corner-sharing AgCl4 tetrahedra. [Hg6As4](AgCl3)2 is the first example of a perfectly ordered supramolecular architecture having an infinite chain anion as
guest moiety in a mercury—pnicogen cationic host framework. — (OLENEVA, O. S.;
