Oxide Ion Conductivity and Chemical Stability of Lanthanum Fluorides Doped
with Oxygen, La(Sr,Na)F3-2xOx. — As revealed by electrical conductivity and ionic
51- 014 transport
number measurements, oxygen doped into LaF3 can be mobile through introduced anion vacancy. LaO0.6F1.8 exhibits an oxide ion conductivity comparable with
that of doped Bi2O3-based oxides. The oxide ion conductivity is further improved by
simultaneous doping with SrO, SrF2, and NaF. The highest conductivity is achieved
with the composition La0.9Sr 0.1Na 0.05O0.4F2.0 which exhibits much higher conductivity
than commonly used oxide ion conductors such as Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2, Sm-doped
CeO2, or LaGaO3 doped with Sr and Mg. Due to its high chemical stability Sr-, Na-,
and O-doped LaF3 is highly attractive as a new oxide ion conductor for various applications, in particular as electrolyte for solid oxide fuel cells. — (ANDO, M.; ENOKI,
