Thermal and Photolytic Reactions of Group 12 Metal Atoms in HCl-Doped Argon
Formation and Characterization of the Hydride Species
02- 020 Matrices:
HMCl (M: Zn, Cd, or Hg). — Thermal and photolytic reactions occurring in
HCl-doped Ar matrices containing metal atoms M (M: Zn, Cd, Hg) are characterized
by UV/VIS and IR spectroscopy. The primary reaction induced by UV irradiation
(200 ≤ λ ≤ 400 nm) is insertion of M into the H—Cl bond to give the molecule HMCl.
In addition the species HMMCl (M: Zn, Cd) are also formed by reaction of the metal
dimers with HCl. The reaction products are characterized by their IR spectra supported
by the results of normal coordinate analysis and DFT calculations. — (MACRAE, V.
