Cation and Spin Ordering in the n = 1 Ruddlesden—Popper Phase La2Sr2LiRuO8.
— The title compound is synthesized by solid state reaction of a stoichiometric mixture
03- 017 of
SrCO3, La2O3, RuO2, and an excess of Li2CO3 (900 °C, 17 h). As revealed by X-ray
and neutron diffraction, La2Sr2LiRuO8 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group
Imm2. The six-coordinate sites are occupied by 1:1 ordered layers of Li and Ru, and
the nine-coordinate sites by 1:1 ordered layers of La and Sr. The sample undergoes a
transition to an antiferromagnetic phase at 85 K. The spins associated with the anti-site
