Pd-catalyzed ring opening of (V), decarboxylation, and cyclization of the amide to form
(VI). Oxazolines (VII) display low micromolar activity against MMP-9 and additionally, (VIIa) and (VIIc) are also selective for inhibition of gelatinase B over other MMPs
