Synthesis of Dimeric Acridine Derived Antivirals. — Ten antiviral compounds posan intercalating acridine-derived part, a spacer region, and a reactive EDTA-de03- 145 sessing
rived conjugate, are synthesized in good to fair yields by reaction of 1,ω-alkyldiamines
like (I) with EDTA dianhydride (II). The dimeric compounds are complexed with Fe3+,
lyophilized and incubated with MS2 bacteriophages in the presence of sodium ascorbate. The length of the spacer has significant influence on the reduction of the phage-titer. Compound (III) having a spacer length of n = 6 gives rise to a reduction of the
phage-titer of MS2 phages by more than 8 logarithmic decades. — (CSUK*, R.;
