Red Photoluminescence and Crystal Structure of Sr3Y2(BO3)4. — The title comcrystallizes in space group Pc21n with Z = 4 (powder XRD) and is isotypic with
04- 011 pound
Sr3La2(BO3)4. The structure consists of BO3 triangles, YO8 polyhedra and Sr atoms in
10-, 9-, and 8-fold coordination. Eu-doped Sr3Y2(BO3)4 exhibits strong red 5D0→7F2
emission around 615 nm due to Eu3+ at a non-centrosymmetric site. The strongest emission intensity is observed for Sr3(Y0.9Eu0.1)2(BO3)4 and it appears possible that this kind
of ternary borates can be applied in plasma display panel (PDP) technology. —
