Preparation and Electrode Properties of New Ternary Alloys: LnMgNi4 (Ln: La,
Ce, Pr, Nd). — The title compounds are synthesized by sintering pressed pellets of
stoichiometric mixtures of the elements at 673, 873, and 973 K for 3 h at each temperature. The electrode properties of the samples are characterized by simulated
battery tests. The initial discharge capacity of Mg2Ni and LaMgNi4 alloys is about
400 mAh/g, but only LaMgNi4 exhibits a good cycle life. LaMgNi 4 has a great potential
for applications in future hydrogen energy systems, such as rechargeable batteries and
