Structure and Magnetic Properties of a Giant CuII
44 Aggregate which Packs with
a Zeotypic Superstructure. ? Crystals of [Cu 44(�Br)2(�OH) 36(�-OH)24
{N(CH2CH2COO}3)12Br8(OH 2)28]Br 2�H2O are synthesized from an aqueous solution
of CuBr2, N(CH2CH 2COOH)3, and CsOH (2 d, 30% yield). The compound crystallizes
in the monoclinic space group C2/c with Z = 4. The Cu44 aggregates have a central core
corresponding to [Cu24(�Br)2(�OH)24(�-OH)8]14+ anchored on two bromide anions.
The aggregates are packed into a distorted tetragonal array with a very open structure.
Magnetic measurements indicate that the individual clusters have nonzero spin ground
