Efficient and Selective Halogenation of Allylic and Benzylic Alcohols under Mild
— The novel halogenation method utilizes the reagent system thionyl

chloride, benzotriazole, and potassium halides to transform allylic and benzylic alcohols into the corresponding organic halides. Other simple alcohols like primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols remain unreacted. Excellent selectivities are also obtained
during inter- and intra-molecular competition between benzylic and aliphatic alcohols,
cf. (V). The case of operation and the simplicity of the work-up makes this high-yielding procedure economically attractive. Furthermore, this procedure is amenable to
