Aminoboranes as "Compatible" Iminium Ion Generators in Aminative C—C
Formations. — Aminocarboxylic acid esters and amino ketones are prepared by

a new three-component Mannich-type reaction of aldehydes, secondary amines, and
silyl ketene acetals. These reactions are mediated by aminoboranes, bearing a bulky
iPr2N group on the boron atom, and catalytic amounts of 2-piperidinone to accelerate
the reaction. The desired reactive boranes are formed in situ by exchange of the
iPr2N-group by a less bulky amino group of the coupling amine. A remarkable feature
of the method is the mildness of the reaction conditions, which result in a high compatibility with the functional groups of the reaction partners, and the applicability to enolizable aldehydes. The reactions are also performed with aminoboranes (VIII) and (XI)
