The Antimonide Oxides La9Sb 5O5 and Ce9Sb 5O5 as well as the Binary Phases
La2Sb and Ce2Sb. — The novel antimonide oxides of title were synthesized from
Sb2O3, antimony and the rare earth metals (La, Ce) in closed tantalum ampoules at 1770
K. La9Sb5O5 and Ce9Sb5O5 crystallize in the tetragonal space group P4/n with Z = 2
(single crystal XRD). The new structure type represents a defect variant of the Sc2Sb
structure filled up with oxygen atoms. La9Sb 5O5 exhibits metallic conductivity with
ρ = 6.7 mΩ·cm at 293 K. The binary phases La2Sb and Ce2Sb are reinvestigated and it
is found that these phases are also formed in the presence of oxygen. — (NUSS*, J.;
