K10M4M' 4S17 (M: Mn, Fe, Co, Zn; M': Sn, Ge) and Cs10Cd4Sn4S17: Compounds
with a Discrete Supertetrahedral Cluster. — The structures of the title compounds
are determined by single crystal XRD. (IVa) crystallizes in the cubic space group F43c
(Z = 8), (IVb,c,d) and (IX) in the cubic space group P43m (Z = 1), and (VII) in the tetragonal space group P4 with Z = 2. All six compounds contain discrete supertetrahedral
[M4M'4S17]10- (M': Sn, Ge) clusters built from sulfur-connected SnS4 and MS 4 tetrahedra
with an additional quadruply bridging sulfur atom at the center of the cluster. (VII) and
(IX) show photoluminescence at room temperature.The magnetic properties of
(IVb)—(IVc) indicate strong antiferromagnetic interactions arising from spin coupling
within the cluster while their magnetic susceptibility is characterized by a discrepancy
