An Improved Method for Synthesizing Antennary β-D-Mannopyranosyl DisacUnits. — The target mannopyranosyl disaccharide (VIII) is synthesized by a
06- 179 charide
sequence characterized by indirect allylation via allyloxycarbonyl groups and by a
simultaneous double SN2 substitution. This process converts the galactopyranosyl
disaccharide (V) into the mannopyranosyl derivative (VII) in 52% overall yield, as
