High-Pressure Synthesis and Crystal Structure of the Structurally New Orthorhombic Rare-Earth meta-Oxoborates γ-Ln(BO2)3 (Ln: La—Nd). — The new title
compounds are prepared by reaction of CeO2, Pr6O11, or Ln2O3 (Ln: La, Nd) and B2O3
under high-pressure/high-temperature conditions (7.5 GPa, 1000 °C). The structure of
γ-Ce(BO2)3 is determined by single crystal XRD (orthorhombic, space group Pca21,
Z = 4). For the isotypic compounds γ-Ln(BO2)3 (Ln: La, Pr, Nd) powder XRD data are
reported. Structurally, the compounds represent a new type of rare-earth meta-oxoborate Ln(BO2)3 in addition to the well characterized monoclinic α-phase (Ln: La—Nd,
Sm—Lu; C2/c) and the orthorhombic β-phase (Ln: Tb—Lu; Pnma). — (EMME, H.;
