The Subchloride Bi16PdCl22: P d@Bi4+
10 Polycations Inside a Framework of Chloro-Bismuthate(III) Anions. — Single crystals of the title compound are obtained from
a stoichiometric melt of the elements (evacuated quartz tube, 1270 K, 5 K/h cooling
rate). Bi16PdCl22In crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 with Z = 8. The crystal
structure contains P d@B i4+
10 polycations with the shape of pentagonal Archimedean
antiprisms (D5d symmetry) which are embedded in the cavities of a pseudo-cubic

4∞ [Bi 6Cl 22] framework formed by chloro-bismuthate(III) anions that share vertices and
edges. A 2x2x2 superstructure results from three different main orientations of the
polycations occurring with ratio 3:3:2. The weak interaction between the interstitial
closed-shell Pd0 and the electron-precise arachno-cluster B i41 +0 is represented by the formulation as a cationic inclusion compound P d@B i4+
