Preparation and Crystal Structure of Sc3(Sc0.32Al 0.68)O6 — A New Derivative of the
Mg3TeO6 Type of Structure. — The title compound is prepared by solid state reaction
of the binary oxides (pressed pellets, air, 800→1500 °C) and via the sol-gel route starting with Sc(O-Ac)3 and Al(NO3)3·9H2O in citric acid. Sc3(Sc0.32Al 0.68)O6 is characterized by powder XRD, single crystal electron diffraction, and energy dispersive X-ray
spectroscopy. The compound crystallizes in the Mg3TeO6 type structure (space group
R3, Z = 6) with a mixed occupation of the cation positions with multiplicity three,
which is observed for the first time for a compound with Mg3TeO6 type structure. —
