Controlling the Regiochemistry of Zirconocene-Catalyzed Hydrosilation of StySelective Preparation of Markovnikov and anti-Markovnikov Addition

Products Using the Same Combination of Procatalysts. — The regioselectivity of
hydrosilylation of styrene derivatives with various silanes can be efficiently controlled
by reagent ratio or mode of addition of reactants. Thus, when stoichiometric amounts
of zirconocene and BuLi are used the order of addition of styrene and silane to the reaction mixture is the decisive factor controlling the formation of Markovnikov (IV) or
anti-Markovnikov product (III). In contrast, when the catalytic version of this reaction
is studied, the regioselectivity is governed by the ratio of zirconocene to organolithium.
