Structure Refinement, Physical Properties and Electronic Structure of New
Copper Intercalated Group Vb Ditellurides CuxMTe2

(M: V, Nb, Ta). — The title compounds with copper contents in the range
0.78 ≤ x ≤ 1.0 are synthesized from mixtures of MTe2 (M: V, Nb, Ta) and CuCl in
MeCN (autoclave, 413 K, 10—30 d) or by electrochemical intercalation of Cu+ into
MTe2. The products are characterized by powder XRD, electrical resistivity, magnetic
susceptibility, and DFT band structure calculations. The compounds crystallize in the
space group P21/m with Z = 2. Cu is tetrahedrally coordinated by Te, and is placed
between corrugated MTe2-layers. All compounds exhibit metallic conductivity.
Cu0.87VTe2 and CuNbTe2 show Pauli paramagnetism. In Cu0.82TaTe2, the diamagnetic
part of the susceptibility dominates over the Pauli contribution leading to overall diamagnetic behavior. — (SOERGEL, T.; JANSEN*, M.; Solid State Sci. 6 (2004) 11,
