Single Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of MnSbS2Cl. — The new title
compound is synthesized by solid state reaction of a stoichiometric mixture of
MnS, MnCl2, and Sb2S3 (500 °C, 10 d). As revealed by single crystal XRD the orange
compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4 and is isotypic
with stibnite (Sb2S3). The structure consists of layers of corner-sharing MnS4Cl2 octahedra along the a axis and edge-sharing octahedra along the b axis, which are separated
by Sb atoms. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate antiferromagnetic behavior below 40 K. A susceptibility increase appears at about 23 K. — (DOUSSIER*, C.;
