Role of Crystal Structure on the Thermal Expansion of Ln2W3O12 (Ln: La, Nd, Dy,
Er and Yb). — The title compounds are characterized by dilatometry and high tem09- 010 Y,
perature XRD. The lighter rare earth tungstates (Ln: La, Nd, Dy) crystallize in the
monoclinic space group C2/c whereas the compounds containing Y, Er, and Yb form
the orthorhombic trihydrates Ln2W3O12·3H 2O at room temperature and above 400 K
transform to the dehydrated compounds crystallizing in the orthorhombic space group
Pnca. The heavy rare earth tungstates show a large initial expansion up to 400 K, followed by thermal contraction. The light rare earth tungstates display thermal expansion. — (SUMITHRA, S.; UMARJI*, A. M.; Solid State Sci. 6 (2004) 12, 1313-1319;
